  1.           Welcome to the NeXTanswers information retrieval system!

  3. This system allows you to request online technical documents, drivers, and
  4. other software, which are then sent to you automatically.  You can request 
  5. documents by fax or Internet electronic mail, read them on the world-wide
  6. web, transfer them by anonymous ftp, or download them from the BBS.
  7.  
  8. NeXTanswers is an automated retrieval system.  Requests sent to it are 
  9. answered electronically, and are not read or handled by a human being.
  10. NeXTanswers does not answer your questions or forward your requests.

  13. USING NEXTANSWERS BY E-MAIL
  14.  
  15. To use NeXTanswers by Internet e-mail, send requests to nextanswers@next.com. 
  16. Files are sent as NeXTmail attachments by default; you can request they be 
  17. sent as ASCII text files instead.  
  18.  
  19. To request a file, include that file's ID number in the Subject line or the 
  20. body of the message.  You can request several files in a single message.
  21.  
  22. You can also include commands in the Subject line or the body of the message.
  23. These commands affect the way that files you request are sent:
  24.  
  25.   ASCII            causes the requested files to be sent as ASCII text
  26.   SPLIT            splits large files into 95KB chunks, using the MIME 
  27.                    Message/Partial specification
  28.   REPLY-TO address sets the e-mail address NeXTanswers uses
  29.  
  30. These commands return information about the NeXTanswers system:
  31.  
  32.   HELP             returns this help file
  33.   INDEX            returns the list of all available files
  34.   INDEX BY DATE    returns the list of files, sorted newest to oldest
  35.   SEARCH keywords  lists all files that contain all the keywords you list
  36.                    (ignoring capitalization)

  38. For example, a message with the following Subject line requests
  39. three files:

  41.   Subject:  2101 2234 1109

  43. A message with this body requests the same three files be 
  44. sent as ASCII text files:

  48. This message requests two lists of files, one for each search:

  53.   SEARCH NetInfo domain

  55. NeXTanswers will reply to the address in your From: line.  To use a different
  56. address either set your Reply-To: line, or use the NeXTanswers command
  57. REPLY-TO <your-address>

  63. USING NEXTANSWERS BY FAX
  64.  
  65. To use NeXTanswers by fax, call (415) 780-3990 from a touch-tone phone and 
  66. follow the instructions.  You'll be asked for your fax number, a number to 
  67. identify your fax (like your phone extension or office number), and the ID 
  68. numbers of the files you want.  You can also request a list of available 
  69. files.  When you finish entering the file numbers, end the call and the 
  70. files will be faxed to you.

  72. If you have problems using this fax system, please call Technical Support
  73. at 1-800-955-NeXT. You cannot use the fax system outside the U.S & Canada.

  76. USING NEXTANSWERS VIA THE WORLD-WIDE WEB

  78. To use NeXTanswers via the Internet World-Wide Web connect to NeXT's web
  79. server at URL http://www.next.com/.

  82. USING NEXTANSWERS BY ANONYMOUS FTP

  84. To use NeXTanswers by Internet anonymous FTP, connect to FTP.NEXT.COM
  85. and read the help file pub/NeXTanswers/README.  If you have problems using 
  86. this, please send mail to nextanswers-request@next.com.

  89. USING NEXTANSWERS BY MODEM

  91. To use NeXTanswers via modem call the NeXTanswers BBS at (415) 780-2965.
  92. Log in as the user "guest", and enter the Files section.  From there you
  93. can download NeXTanswers documents.

  99. from NeXTanswers, call the Support Hotline at 1-800-955-NeXT (outside the U.S.
  100. call +1-415-780-2922) to speak to a NEXTSTEP Technical Support Technician.
  101. If your site has a NeXT support contract, your site's support contact must
  102. make this call to the hotline.  Otherwise, hotline support is on a
  103. pay-per-call basis.
